Areola Restoration and Pigmentation
Enhancement Cosmetic tattooing, also known as
micropigmentation can be done to reconstruct the aesthetic appearance
of the nipple areola complex after reconstructive surgery.
For years the only method use to give back aesthetic balance was
skin grafting. Today, cosmetic tattooing with flesh
colored pigments can be utilized to give a women back her
aesthetic balance when she has undergone breast
reconstruction. This tattoo procedure usually takes 3-4
visits to obtain the final result, but is less invasive that the
old methods of areola reconstruction. This procedure can also be
used to restore pigment balance and symmetry that may have been
lost with aging. Some plastic surgeons perform this
procedure themselves as a part of the reconstructive process,
and others have it performed by experience permanent makeup
technicians. The procedure usually starts with patch testing
different flesh tone pigments to obtain the desired areola color
tone. The following visits usually utilize a round stencil to
obtain the desired areola size. The subsequent visits
entail pigment shading to obtain a more 3 dimensional looking
areola/nipple complex.
